Umdat ul Fiqh – Fiqh of Worship

Introduction to the Course

Umdat ul Fiqh is a Hanbali text in the field of fiqh (jurisprudence).  The author of the book is the great scholar of Islam, and one of the top in the Hanbali madhab, Ibn Qudamah (may Allah have mercy on him).  He authored this book upon the request of his students to make it more easier for those who wish to seek knowledge and to memorize the text.  The book is comprehensive in nature in providing the primary set of knowledge for one’s faith to apply in their daily lives.

For this course, the following chapters are covered:

  1. Chapter of Taharah – Purification
  2. Chapter of Salah – Prayer
  3. Chapter of Janazah – Funerals
  4. Chapter of Zakah – Charity/Alms
  5. Chapter of Siyam – Fasting
  6. Chapter of Hajj & Umrah – Pilgrimage

Objectives of the course:

  1. To understand the judicial rulings of the 5 Pillars of Islam
  2. To understand how Allah wants us to worship Him
  3. To appreciate the scholars and their efforts in deriving the rules from the Quran and Sunnah
  4. To ensure our acts of worship are in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam)
