AQD 201: Lum’atul ‘Itiqad

Lum’atul ‘Itiqad

This course is based on the book Lum’atul I’tiqaad Al-Haadee ilaa Sabeel ir-Rashaad , “The Illuminating Creed that Guides to the Path of Success”.  Written by the great Hanbali scholar of Islam, Ibn Qudamah Al-Maqdisi, it is a small treatise covering a range of topics pertaining to aqeedah, i.e. our beliefs/creed.

The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the history of aqeedah – what happened after the Sahabah, why did certain groups start to emerge and started to differ amongst themselves about Allah and His attributes, how and why did certain political divisions lead to theological divisions, and why did Ibn Qudamah write this book.  The course is taught comparatively with the different theological schools with a focus on the Athari understanding.
